San Francisco

San Francisco is a city in the US state of California and the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area. San Francisco is the fourth city in California, after Los Angeles, San Diego and San Jose. It is also the only city in California that coincides with a county: officially called City and County of San Francisco.

The city, which has 805,235 inhabitants, is located on the San Francisco Peninsula that separates the Pacific Ocean from the San Francisco Bay. The agglomeration of which San Francisco is the center consists of the cities of San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley. With more than 7 million inhabitants, it is the fourth largest agglomeration in the United States. Only New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Washington D.C.-Baltimore are larger.

San Francisco is one of the most popular tourist cities in the world. San Francisco is characterized by its steep hills, fresh summers and fog. The most famous symbols of the city are the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Chinatown, the Transamerica Pyramid and the cable trams.
