Coca Cola

Coca-Cola was invented in 1886 by the pharmacist John Pemberton who previously developed a variant of the then popular alcoholic Vin Mariani which he called Pemberton's French wine coca. After a ban on alcoholic beverages had been issued at Pemberton's home base in Atlanta in 1886, he replaced the wine with sugar syrup and named it Coca-Cola. It was sold in jars and had to be diluted with water. When the syrup started to mix with carbonated water, the stimulating drink with the characteristic cola flavor arose.

The idea of calling it Coca-Cola comes from Pemberton's business partner Frank Robinson. The elegant letters on the packaging are also his. The bottle was not developed until 1915. The first Coca-Cola factory was opened in 1894 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. In the beginning Coca-Cola was only available in carts along the road, for a nickel (5 cents).
